Frequently Asked Camp Questions
All prospective student-athletes must have an account in RegisterMyAthlete (https://www.registermyathlete.com)in order to complete all registration requirements - including a current AIA Physical Examination and Questionnaire.
The coaching staff does not clear athletes. Please complete the Athletic Clearance requirements as far in advance as possible. Keep in mind that the closer it is to tryouts, the longer it will take to verify all documents and signatures. If you upload everything on the first day of practice, it might not be approved until the next day.
Once prospective student-athletes are fully cleared for participation, they will receive a private registration link (https://portal.campnetwork.com/Register/Register.php?camp_id=397226)to enroll in the Pre-Season Practices and Team Selections. Pre-registration helps the coaching staff effectively organize training groups and plan productive training sessions.
PLEASE NOTE: The registration link is private and will only be sent to student-athletes whose RMA profile status displays “READY FOR TRYOUTS.”
If you believe you’ve completed all pre-participation requirements and have not received the link, please contact Coach Lang at blang@amphi.com.(mailto:blang@amphi.com)
There are follow-up questions that will appear once the registration is complete.
• Log in to CampNetwork.
• Click the Profile button in the upper right corner and select My Registrations.
• Find the Team Selections registration.
• Once it’s loaded, click the Update Details button in the right corner of the registration details.
• Edit the post-registration questions by clicking Edit Details.
All prospective athletes need to attend all tryout sessions until otherwise notified by the coaching staff. Failure to attend all sessions for any reason could adversely effect any potential placement on a team.
If an athlete will miss tryouts for any reason, please contact the Coaching Staff as soon as possible. Please note that family vacations will not be deemed acceptable reasons for missing tryouts.
If not cleared, players are encouraged to sit and watch the tryouts to understand the drills and concepts that will be taught. Once they are cleared to participate, an alternative tryout may be arranged if the final Team Selections have not been posted.
No.
While off-season participation may help an athlete at the Player Evaluations, it will never hurt an athlete’s chances to make a team during the evaluations.
Athletes that took advantage of the Off-Season Program's training opportunities are generally more physically fit and have a deeper understanding of the IRVB system. This is what sets them apart; not their attendance.

The Pre-Season Practices are offered to start the evaluation process and to give prospective athletes an opportunity to train before the official start date. While this evaluation period will help an athlete prepare for tryouts, it will never hurt an athlete’s chances to make a team during the official Player Evaluations and Team Selections.

By tradition, Freshmen do not normally tryout for the Ironwood Ridge Volleyball Varsity Team. Exceptional Freshman may be promoted during Team Selections and/or promoted to the Varsity Team during the season, but only after they have demonstrated the athletic ability and skill level, as well as the work ethic and maturity level to play at the Varsity level.
Sophomores may be promoted during the Team Selections and/or promoted to the Varsity Team during the season, but only after they have demonstrated the athletic ability and skill level, as well as their academic record and performance during their freshman season.

Well, maybe… Each sport has it’s body and while being 300 lbs will help a lineman on the football team, length is always a good thing in volleyball.
Athletic testing will reveal the quick (and tall player) for positional needs of the volleyball program. In our system, quickness and strength (along with pattern recognition, problem-solving, decision making, aggressiveness, etc) are more important than just height.
No. Don't believe the hype.
Club volleyball is an individual commitment and may help enhance individual skills in the off-season, but it not required by this high school program. The main requirement for us is that players return from the previous season better than the previous season, and some club teams will do that better than others.
The physical testing (Athletic Ability) will level the playing field for multi-sport players without club experience. Each year we have many non-club players make the Junior Varsity and Novice teams.
If you are concerned about the "Club Volleyball Factor" at Ironwood Ridge, please contact the Coaching Staff. You will find that the perception of others is not necessarily the reality.
Prospective athletes do not tryout for positions here.
The coaching staff will evaluate all athletes and determine the best fit for the player and program.
The best advice we can give to all players is to be as well-rounded as possible and willing to do anything the coaching staff asks of them.
While all practice sessions are closed to the public, parents are allowed to observe.
However, please consider refraining from attending the tryout sessions. The athletes (and coaches) are stressed enough and we don’t want to add to the stress level by allowing outside influences to watch.
Please keep in mind that there are also conversations taking place in the gym lobby related to tryouts. Please respect the privacy of the players and staff by waiting outside the athletic building for your daughter if asked to do so by the coaching staff.
The coaching staff will personally talk to each student that completes the tryouts to let them know if they made the team or not. This will be done in private with at least two coaches present. We will not post or publish a cut list.
Beginning on Wednesday, the coaching staff will request that select students meet with the coaches before leaving the gym. During these meetings, the coaches will direct the candidate to continue attending the next session or inform the student of the decision regarding making the team.
If the student wishes to schedule a follow-up meeting regarding the decision, this may be scheduled after all team selections have been made. Parents may attend this meeting if they wish.
Yes. The Bookstore will issue refunds (or apply to another sport) for all students that do not make the volleyball team.
Every year we have athletes that participate in club sports during the volleyball season.
IRVB allows participation as long as the high school season is the priority during any conflict. Players are not allowed to miss or leave early from practice to attend a club event. School-sponsored events are different.
